Ventricular quadrigeminy is a cardiac arrhythmia characterized by a unique rhythm pattern in which every fourth heartbeat is a premature ventricular contraction (PVC). In a normal heart rhythm, the ventricles, the lower chambers of the heart, contract in a regular pattern. However, in ventricular quadrigeminy, this regularity is disrupted by the occurrence of premature contractions. These premature beats often originate in the ventricles, causing a distinctive four-beat sequence. While ventricular quadrigeminy may not always present immediate health risks, it can be associated with underlying heart conditions and may warrant further evaluation by a healthcare professional. Monitoring and understanding the cardiac rhythm through electrocardiograms (ECGs) are crucial in identifying and managing ventricular quadrigeminy, ensuring optimal heart health.
