Sudden cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency where the heart unexpectedly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Unlike a heart attack, which results from a blockage, sudden cardiac arrest is usually caused by abnormal heart rhythms, such as ventricular fibrillation. This condition can occur without warning, even in seemingly healthy individuals, and requires immediate intervention, such as CPR or the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), to restore a normal heartbeat. Early recognition and rapid response are critical in improving survival rates, highlighting the importance of widespread public education on recognizing and managing sudden cardiac arrest.
