Title : “The effect of cardiac rehabilitation on exercise tolerance and quality of life in patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in out patient phase”
Abstract:
Background: CABG is most common type of heart surgery. Cardiac Rehabilitation following CABG surgery aims to minimise post- operative pulmonary complications (PPCs) such as atelectasis, arterial hypoxemia, and respiratory infection, decreased exercise tolerance which are the primary causes of morbidity and mortality.
Quality of life (QOL) and exercise tolerance are important factor in the prognosis of CABG as well as to evaluate effects of different interventions in cardiovascular diseases. Improvement in QOL and exercise tolerance is an important goal for patients participating in CR.
Objective: To Determine the Effect CR on Exercise tolerance and quality of life in patient with CABG in outpatient phase.
Methodology: 30 samples of both male and female between age 50 to 80 years who fulfil inclusion criteria were selected randomly for this study. All subjects were under gone Pre and Post 6MWT & evaluated with Pre and Post QOL SF-12 Patient Questionnaire to evaluate the effect of CR Post CABG On Exercise tolerance and QOL.
Results: The data was evaluated by statistical analysis paired t test was applied, Pre & Post 6MWT mean were 400.23 & 524.27 whereas Pre & Post QOL SF-12 Questionnaire mean were 31.57 & 30.50
Conclusion: There is a significant improvement in exercise tolerance as well as QOL in Patient with CABG after Applying Cardiac rehabilitation exercises.

Audience Takeaway:
- CABG is most common type of heart surgery. Cardiac Rehabilitation following CABG surgery aims to minimise post- operative pulmonary complications. Quality of life (QOL) and exercise tolerance are important factor in the prognosis of CABG as well as to evaluate effects of different interventions in cardiovascular diseases.
- Increase Quality of life
- Increase exercise tolerance
- Increase adaptation to environment
The modified cardiac rehabilitation exercises protocol is not only help for get rid out of post operative complication after CABG, also it can be implemented for other cardiac disorders exercise progression of phase III and phase IV, community-based rehabilitation
