Title : Early post-operative arrhythmias and their risk factors after total repair of tetralogy of fallot in pediatric patients

Abstract:

Conduction disturbances may arise promptly following complete correction of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Some of these arrhythmias and modifications, such as full right bundle branch block, are permanent, while others, like Junctional Ectopic Tachycardia (JET), are transient. This retrospective investigation was carried out on pediatric patients aged six months to 15 years (52.5% male and 47.5% female) with TOF who consecutively underwent surgical total correction from 2015-2017. Patients with additional concurrent cardiac procedures, preexisting arrhythmias before surgery, or any coexisting cardiac abnormalities, as well as those with severe postoperative complications, were excluded. All data and Electrocardiographic (ECG) records were collected multiple times immediately after the surgery. Early postoperative enduring arrhythmias after total repair were likely more prevalent among patients with more severe subvalvular pulmonary stenosis. Nevertheless, transient JET was predominantly noticed among patients who received milrinone as a postoperative inotropic medication.

Audience Take Away
This presentation will examine one of the most crucial complications following total TOF correction that is highly beneficial for pediatricians working in cardiac surgery intensive care units. Furthermore, further research in this realm can aid healthcare professionals in enhancing their skills in the early detection and treatment of such complications.
