Title : Surgical options for aortic valve preservation
Abstract:
Refinements in cardiac surgical techniques can now offer many patients preservation of their native aortic valve rather than replacement with biologic or mechanical prostheses. These operations range from isolated aortic valve repair to total aortic root replacement with valve reimplantation. Advancements for isolated valve repair include primary leaflet realignment, subannular reduction valvuloplasty, commissural resuspension, and patch augmentation. Procedures for aortic root disease include partial sinus of Valsalva replacement and valve-sparing total root replacement. Lastly, novel operations for aortic root and ascending aneurysm include root reconstruction for aortic dissection and the personalized external aortic root support (PEARS) procedure. Surgical options for aortic valve preservation provide patients freedom from artificial valve replacement and have been shown to be safe, effective and durable.
